An Overview of New Horizons
On November 12, 2015 the Foundation for Nuclear Studies hosted its annual luncheon briefing on nuclear science and space exploration. Dr. Stephen Johnson began the forum with remarks on both the research and development behind INL’s nuclear space battery program. For additional reference, Dr. Johnson also provided a small-scaled model of a GPHS-RTG.
Dr. Ralph McNutt then concluded the briefing by assessing details from New Horizons recent flyby over Pluto. Dr. McNutt’s overview explained the significance of New Horizons’ mission, while also showing cataloged footage from the space probe’s 2006 launch.
