An Update from the Mars Science Laboratory’s Curiosity Rover in Gale Crater, Mars
On December 3, 2013 the Foundation for Nuclear Studies hosted a briefing featuring Dr. Stephen Johnson, Director for Space Nuclear Systems & Tech, Idaho National Laboratory and Dr. Pamela Conrad, Sample Analysis at Mars Investigation, Mars Science Laboratory, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Dr. Conrad opened the discussion by providing an update of the Curiosity Rover’s journey through Gale Crater, Mars. Dr. Johnson’s presentation quickly followed with an overview of components necessary for successful space exploration. Dr. Johnson specifically addressed the importance behind the MMRTG, the source that currently powers modern space exploration.
