Virtual Tour to France visiting Framatome’s Chalon Manufacturing Facility and Orano’s La Hague Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing Plant

FNS organized an opportunity to host a virtual visit for U.S. House and Senate Staffers and allies to tour these two sites.  Local French tour guides shared the working of the plants and took them inside Chalon’s manufacturing floor of nearly 600 heavy components (including reactor vessels, steam generators, and pressurizers). They saw the inside of the used nuclear fuel management activities at the La Hague facility and the nationwide transportation system that supports it.

Virtual Tour of the Idaho National Laboratory

A virtual continuation of our annual visit to the Idaho National Laboratory: the leading center for nuclear energy research and development and the home of the first usable nuclear-generated electricity.  Virtual tourists visited INL’s advanced test reactor and the National Reactor Innovation Center.

FNS hosted a visit to the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Lusby, Maryland.  Located on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay, the Calvert Cliffs facility offers an opportunity to see how the plant works to protect the environment and the endangered species in the Chesapeake Bay area as well as the safety features of the facility.

The Nuclear Industry’s Response to COVID-19 Video Conference Briefing

FNS organized this briefing to hear from experts in the nuclear field on the impact of the pandemic on nuclear energy.  These experts discussed the decrease in energy demand as a result of physical distancing, potential financial relief plans in Congress to protect the nuclear sector, and plans for regularly scheduled Spring refueling outages.

FNS trip to France

FNS hosted its first inaugural international trip with a number of U.S. House Staffers to visit France — one of the world’s leaders in nuclear energy — to tour several of the country’s nuclear facilities.  This highly anticipated trip featured a tour of Orano’s La Hague Reprocessing Facility, EDF’s Flamanville Nuclear Power Plant, and Framatome’s Chalon/St. Marcel Heavy Manufacturing Facility.
